Island Tour - 13 Nights / 14 Days

Day 01: Negombo

You will be met at the airport and escorted to your hotel in Negombo so you can relax after your long journey. Negombo is a busy fishing town located in close proximity to the airport. Its sandy beaches and huge lagoon tempted the Portuguese & Dutch to use it as a fishing port during colonization. There is a 120 km long Dutch canal and lots of churches in the town. A legacy left by the Portuguese during the colonial occupation. The Muthurajawela marshlands nearby has a large number of bird species that remain an attraction to eco-lovers. If you are up and about in the early hours of the morning you will be able to observe the fishing boats arriving ashore. The economy of Negombo is mainly based on tourism and the fishing industry.Your first day in Negombo will be a perfect start as you  look forward to your journey through the Island in the coming days.


Day 2 - Anuradhapura

 Visit the ancient City and man made lakes of Anuradhapura

Sri Lanka's first ancient capital city. Troubled many times by the invading Cholas. This historic city had a thriving civilisation with a succession of more than 100 kings. You will soon discover that this ancient city had a sophisticated science, engineering  & health care system in operation. With the advent of Buddhism was born a highly disciplined spirituality & meditation centre.  A Bo-tree  grown from a branch of the original Bo-tree in "Buddha Gaya" in India remains sacred to the Buddhists of Sri Lanka. This is the sacred Bo'tree under which the Buddha attained enlightenment. A 42ft statue of the standing buddha carved out of granite still stands today, mighty and colossal.

 

 


Day 3 -Trincomalee

Then move to Trincomalee.In the Evening visit Trincomalee dutch fort and Koneshwaram Hindu Shrine.  It is an important and special geographical area with scenic views. After we move to our hotel.

Koneswaram temple is a classical medieval Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva in Trincomalee, Eastern Sri Lanka. The temple is situated atop Konesar Malai, a promontory that overlooks the Indian Ocean, the nearby eastern coast , as well as Trincomalee Harbour or Gokarna Bay. Konesvaram is revered as one the Pancha Ishwarams, of Sri Lanka for long time. Being a major place for Hindu pilgrimage, it was labelled "Rome of the Gentiles/Pagans of the Orient" in some records. Konesvaram holds a significant role in the religious and cultural history of Sri Lanka, as it was likely built during the reign of the early Cholas and the Five Dravidians of the Early Pandyan Kingdom.



Day 4 -   Trincomalee - Sigiriya

Early morning get our breakfast we move to Nilaveli to get boat to  Pigions Island National Park.

Pigions Island National Park is one of the two marine national parks of Sri Lanka.The national park contains some of the best remaining coral reefs of Sri Lanka. It is very famous for colorful corals spread in vast area, fish verities  and small Sharks (not danger).

You can do diving/snorkeling at pigeons island and there is a nature trail to explore more of the island

Evening move to Polonnaruwa

 

 


Day 5 - Polonnaruwa - Sigiriya - Dambulla

After having the breakfast we move towards Polonnaruwa to visit Polonnaruwa Ancient City.

PicturePolonnaruwa was the second capital of Sri Lanka after the destruction of Anuradhapura in 993. It comprises, besides the Brahmanic monuments built by the Cholas, the monumental ruins of the fabulous garden-city created by Great king Parakramabahu in the 12th century. Polonnaruw is very importent because why that is main place we can found lot of granite arts we selected main important sites for visit (some words are difficult to you but don’t be confused, we will explain wt does it means on site).

Day 6 - Dambulla - Kandy

After having the breakfast be prepared to burn some calories, yes you have to climb up some steps. not so hard, but bit adventurous.

Sigiriya Rock fortress consists of an ancient citadel built by King Kashyapa during the 5th century. The Sigiriya site contains the ruins of an upper palace located on the flat top of the rock, a mid-level terrace that includes the Lion Gate and the mirror wall with its frescoes, the lower palaces located behind the lavish lower gardens, and moats and ramparts which protected the citadel. The site was both a palace and a fortress. The upper palace on the top of the rock includes cisterns cut into the rock. The moats and walls that surround the lower palace are exquisitely beautiful.

After descend we take the lunch and we start our journey towards Kandy via Matale (72 Km journey). On the way you have a chance visit Herbal spice gardens at Matale if you wish. They’ll explain all you need to know about Lankan spices and Ayurveda herbs

When we reach to Kandy first we go to visit Cultural dancing show. Cultural dancing show includes all sri lankan traditional dances with explanations and it is the best way get good dancing snap shots . After we reach to hotel and get fresh and move to visit Kandy Temple of Tooth.

Sri Dalada Maligawa or the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic is a Buddhist temple which houses the relic of the tooth of the Buddha. Since ancient times, the relic has played an important role in local politics because it is believed that whoever holds the relic holds the governance of the country. Still every leader should promised public  to protect the Tooth relic. Kandy was the last capital of the Sri Lankan kings and is a World Heritage Site mainly due to the temple.

 


Day 7- Nuwara Eliya

After having the breakfast we move to Peradeniya to visit Peradeniya botanical gardens.

Peradeniya Botanical Gardens includes more than 4000 species of plants, including orchids, spices, medicinal plants and palm trees. Attached to it is the National Herbarium of Sri Lanka.

The origins of the Botanic Gardens date as far back as 1371 when King Wickramabahu III ascended the throne and kept court at Peradeniya near the Mahaweli river. This was followed by King Kirti Sri and King Rajadhi Rajasinghe. A temple was built on this location by King Wimaladharma, but it was destroyed by the British when they were given control over the Kingdom of Kandy.

During World War II, the Botanical Garden was used by Lord Louis Mountbatten, the supreme commander of the allied forces in the South Asia, as the headquarters of the South East Asia Command.

Move towards Nuwara Eliya via tea mountains. on the way you can visit Ramboda waterfalls and Tea factory.

Sri Lanka is famous for its natural flavored Tea. you have chance to visit Tea factory and witness the process step by step. And you can buy tea for retail price.

Nuwara Eliya city name meaning is “city on the plain (table land)” or “city of light”.  It is located at an altitude of 1,868 m (6,128 ft) and is considered to be the most important location for tea production in Sri Lanka. The city is overlooked by Pidurutalagala, the highest mountain in Sri Lanka. Nuwara Eliya is also known for the temperate, cool climate, the city is known for being the coolest area in Sri Lanka. and for vegetables too.

In the evening you can take a city tour / walk or bicycle ride around Gregory lake park.

Night stay at Nuwara Eliya.


Day 8- Ella

After breakfast we leaving for the Nanu Oya rail station, we wil take the train to Ella, Ella is a beautiful small sleepy town on the southern edge of Sri Lanka’s Hill Country. We get down Bandarawela and visit Adsham Bangalow . Then reach to Ella.

It’s situated in the middle of beautiful countryside, with small vegetable plots in the valleys, tea plantations on the hill slopes and forests on the tops. You can enjoy the picturesque scenery in the hill country. We stay overnight in Ella.

Day 9- Ella - Udawalawa

Morning visit Lipton's seat and Dabatane Tea factory you can study how we made Ceylon Tea. The point of Lipton's Seat is reached by climbing for around 7km surrounded by peaceful green tea plantations and an occasional colorful tea plucker. There are two routes available one from the Nayabedda estate in Bandarawela, and the second through the Dambatenna estate in Haputale. Both routes have entrances marked with sign boards and narrow paved roads. Some parts of the road even have some of the original stone constructions from the British era of Ceylon, and hence are worth seeing from a historical point of view. The climb takes about two and a half hours on average, after a visitor reaches the hill top.

It may be a long journey, but it helps the travellers interact with nature in a different way. Little Adam’s Peak is visited mainly because of the great hiking experience it gives to its climbers. It never falls short of beauty. It is filled with greenery and beautiful trees and plants. Resorts and hotels have been built to serve the climbers that may be tired after the long walk. The walk may be long, but once one reaches the top, it is just worth the struggle. The path is straight making the walk less complicated.

Then move to Udawalawa Evining visit Maduwanwala Old House.

 


Day10- Udawalawa -Sinharaja

It is then time for an exciting safari across the national park as your guide tells you the park’s history dating back to 1972. This reserve, covering 119 square miles (308 sq km), has a lot to offer with many species of plants, reptiles, birds, and 135 species of butterflies.

During your safari, spot sambar and barking deer, water buffaloes, jackals, mugger crocodiles, and Sri-Lankan leopards. Keep your eyes peeled for sloth bears and hear how Udawalawe is an important habitat for Sri Lankan elephants and water birds before a break for lunch.

Continue to the Elephant Transit Home and watch a milk feeding for the orphans from a viewing platform for approximately 20 minutes. Then explore the facility to understand its focus on providing essential resources to these animals before you return to Sinharaja.

 

 


Day 11- Sinharaja - Unawatuna

he last major undisturbed area of rain forest in Sri Lanka, this forest reserve occupies a broad ridge at the heart of the island’s wet zone. On most days the forest is shrouded by copious rain clouds that replenish its deep soils and balance water resources for much of southwestern Sri Lanka. Recognizing its importance to the island’s ecosystem, UNESCO declared the Sinharaja Forest Reserve a World Heritage Site in 1989.

Sinharaja (Lion King) is bordered by rivers: the Koskulana Ganga in the north and the Gin Ganga in the south. An old foot track that goes past the Beverley Estate marks the eastern border, close to the highest peak in the forest, Hinipitigala (1171m). Towards the west the land decreases in elevation.

The reserve comprises 189 sq km of natural and modified forest, measuring about 21km east to west and 3.7km north to south. It was once a royal reserve, and some colonial records refer to it as Rajasinghe Forest. It may have been the last redoubt of the Sri Lankan lion.

Then reach to Unawatuna.

 


Day 12- Unawatuna - Bentota

Morning visit Galle Dutch Fort. Galle Fort explores this magnificent UNESCO World Heritage Site, which is a spellbinding mixture of Dutch, Portuguese and British history. Its oozes colonial charm with an eclectic range of low rise European architecture, tucked down a lace of narrow lanes and alleyways.  The tour is part driven and part walking and covers the important highlights within the fort.

Picturehen move to Bentota for Madugaga Boat safari . The Madu River Safari is popular activity that has to be on the ‘to do’ list of any respectable Sri Lankan holiday goer. This unforgettable activity last for over two hours and gives a visitor a chance to travel the secretive passages through the mangrove forests and see the ecology.
With most of the area being soggy wetlands, the solid landmass of the region mainly consists of islands. History states there used to be 64 islands along Madu River. However most seem to have sunk under the water, as only 25 islands are reported today. Of these islands only 15 have a sizable landmass. An interesting thing to be visited of the area is the Open-Air Fish Massage. The fish massage is quite popular around the world, especially in East Asian countries. The unique factor about this massage is that the fish are held in their natural environment, the river. A large space is sectioned off by nets tied between poles; restricting the fish from leaving that area. Other than that, they are free to move around. The client simply sits on a pier and dips his or her feet into the water. After move to Kosgoda for visit Turtle Farm. and move to Bentota.

 


Day 13 - Bentota - Colombo

Morning relax on the beach .

Full day relax at Bentota Beach. You can snorkling and participate more water sport activites .

Evening visit Bawa Gardens

PictureWe go past paddy fields, down narrow country lanes, until we get to a gate guarded by two statues with flower pots for hats. Parking our vehicle in a circular clearing surrounded by bamboo, we ring the bronze bell for admission and walk up a sweeping staircase to the main reception area. Polished cement floors kept spotless, inside the house, everything is quiet and serene, birdsong echoing in from outside. A wall of books lines one corner of the main living room, a lifetime’s collection of reading – Oscar wilde, Winston Churchill, Hugh Walpole etc. 

Squirrels scamper inside the house, playing on the furniture, an eclectic mixture of modernist classics and antiques. A Coco De Mer fruit lies on the coffee table, Its dark wood polished and sensuous.Picture A wall of bottles, inserted into the wall so that they catch the diffuse the light of the sun behind it, an outside coffee table features a colorful mosaic of a lizard with bulging eyes. 

Sculptures was Bevis’s Particular passion, and there are many fine examples dotted around the house & garden; Hanuman the monkey king, complete with club, lithe young men sporting vines and tendrils for fig leaves, many of them done by himself.

 


Day 14- Colombo - Airport
